Mary E. Skelnik, is an accomplished attorney, mediator, and arbitrator with a distinguished career resolving countless cases that range from the simple to the complex. With more than two decades of successful litigation experience, she founded the Law Office of Mary E. Skelnik in Addison, Texas in 2007. As a trained mediator and arbitrator in the area of dispute resolution, Mary utilizes her many years of trial and negotiation experience to effectively settle single, multi-party, and mass tort disputes. Appointed by courts and by agreement of the parties, she serves both the private and public sectors of the community.
Whether representing a client or serving as a third party neutral, Mary adds skill, knowledge, and real life experiences to the legal services she provides. Formerly a shareholder in a nationally acclaimed law firm in Dallas and a federal judicial law clerk in the Eastern District of Texas, Mary has experience in all phases of civil litigation. As lead counsel in numerous jury trials in state and federal courts in Texas and Alabama, she obtained sizeable awards for her clients. Over the years, she successfully negotiated scores of case. Few lawyers have tried, negotiated, and resolved as many claims as Mary.
Mary's multi-faceted experience enables her to craft creative and practical solutions to a variety of challenging legal issues. She quickly grasps issues and has the proven ability to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of individual cases. Viewed by her peers as a problem solver, Mary focuses on the important issues and isn't afraid to tackle tough problems.
As a testament to her achievements, Mary was recognized in 2004 by Texas Law & Politics Media, Inc. and Texas Monthly magazine as one of the Top 50 Woman Attorneys in Texas. From 2004 through 2006 she was nominated by her peers and named a Texas Super Lawyer by Super Lawyers, a division of Thomson Reuters.
Recognizing the importance of community, Mary regularly serves as a pro bono mediator in Dallas, Denton, and Tarrant Counties' settlement week programs. Over the years she has participated in community organizations by providing free legal aid to victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks and coordinating projects that provide food and clothing to residents of area shelters and clients of social services. Mary is active in her church and serves as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister.
A long time resident of Collin County and a graduate of the Plano Senior High School, Mary lives in Plano with her husband. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, skiing, and playing the piano.
